OUR CORE BUSINESS

The core business of Marine Fuels Malta Limited is to provide on-time bunkers on and offshore. The term ‘bunkering’ broadly relates to the supply of petroleum products in tanks, amongst others such as road trucks and barges. We believe in focusing on more than just the sales itself. We monitor up until the actual supply has been affected, guaranteeing optimal efficiency and superiority no matter the quantity.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MARINE FUELS

MARINE GAS OIL

Marine Fuels Malta Limited mainly provides fuel oil and marine gas oil, (MGO) which is roughly equivalent to number two fuel oil made from distillate only. Gas oil is the top grade of bunker oil and is chiefly used as fuel for smaller vessels and for larger vessels auxiliary engines and generators.

MARINE DIESEL OIL

Marine diesel oil (MDO) is a blend of heavy gas oil that may contain very small amounts of black refinery feed stocks, but has a low viscosity up to 12 cst so it does not need to be heated for use in internal combustion. MDO contains some heavy fuel oil, unlike regular diesels. Intermediate fuel oil, (IFO) is a blend of gas oil and heavy fuel oil, with less gas oil than marine diesel oil.

ULTRA LOW SULPHUR MARINE GAS OIL

Ultra low sulphur marine gas oil, or ultra low sulfur diesel is referred to as ULSMGO (sulphur 0.0015% max) in the United States and auto gas oil (sulphur 0.001% max) 10 ppm in the European Union. Maximum sulphur allowable in US territories and territorial waters (inland, marine, and automotive) and in the EU for inland use.

OTHER TYPES

MFO, marine fuel is the same as HDO. Another type of oil is heavy fuel oil which is pure or nearly pure residual oil, roughly equivalent to number six fuel oil.
